Self Portrait Challenge~ Political:woman

I've been really sick and am just now starting to feel better...ick...
Here is my photo for this weeks Self Portrait Challenge theme Political...I honestly have too many ideas for this one, I know its hard for a lot of people to be political and I often avoid the topic especially amongst certain groups of people but I also have lots to say. I just usually express those ideas in the other art I do. today I was just thinking a lot about inhabiting the space of a female body and what it is to be a woman in this world. What that means or doesn't mean, how it affects the way I view the world and other people and how gender is so much more complicated than the category of female or male. I feel particularly vulnerable in the world as a woman, more so lately after being robbed. It's an interesting thing to be a woman. To me gender is very political. Digital Scrapbooking Magazine~April/May Issue

It's the one year Anniversary of Digital Scrapbooking Magazine and we are celebrating with an exciting re-design!!! On newsstands now, you will NOT want to miss this issue!!! I am loving the new look and all the exciting changes and additions to magazine! I also couldn't be more proud to be a part of this amazing publication! The year flew by and I feel so lucky to be working with so many talented ladies!

I also wanted to thank everyone for their sweet and supportive comments on my Self Portrait Challenge entry for this week. It was lovely to read all of them. I think that living in San Francisco it is easy to forget that queer life is VERY different in many other parts of the country and I am lucky enough to live in a queer supportive city. Even here I have to deal with all types of discrimination but in many parts of the United States queer life is much more difficult and often dangerous. I personally can't really comprehend the fact that gay marriage isn't legal in most of the Country and the rights allowed to domestic partnerships are so limited. I also don't see it changing in the near future...it is going to be a long uphill battle...that said hearing support like the comments I received gives me hope...

Self Portrait Challenge Close to my heart and the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that I am gay and love women yet am not alllowed to marry the person that I love and that is extremely disturbing to me. Very wrong.
