2011 Pride Photoshow, called Stereo (based on lesbian stereotypes). I’ve photographed 15 girls twice; First photo in their stereotype of choice, and the second in their everyday look. These photos will be displayed staggered on the walls of the Lexington for Pride.

So even if you can't make the openingf on June 21st at the Lexington Club the show will be up for PRIDE 2011 so you can check it out, because really I know you will be in SF for Pride :)

For your visual and auditory pleasure we bring you Stevie Ann! Katie Kaapcke! Stevie Ann is the Lesbian in Chief of the Lesbian Lexicon, a new San Francisco transplant and student of Chinese medicine. Katie Kaapcke is a queer artist and comic book creator. She has shown her work at Homo a go go, Old City Art Gallery and Beatnik-Studios. Katie Kaapcke has provided poster art for Sister Spit: Next Generation 2010 and 2011, read her comic book called Poor Little Dyke Girl with Sister Spit and at Femina Potens and she has also been featured on many art and design blogs including Design for Mankind and Design Sponge. You can read more about her on her blog www.kiki.typepad.com. This Sunday, June 5th. 7:30 open mic sign-ups, 8:00 show. Always on time! Open mic people are welcome to present one piece of less than five minutes, or five minutes of a longer piece. Two pieces? No. Medleys? Check with me (Kirk can't be trusted to be firm). BUT PROBABLY NOT. The admission is $3 to $5. We are comfortable saying that is an incredible deal. You must be 18 or over to regard the dong throng inside Eros. Please feel free to dress in a tiny white towel for the show. Eros is located at 2051 Market St. at 14th St. in San Francisco. There are a couple little coolers with non-alcoholic beverages for sale, including Fresca and Muscle Milk.

(SomArts is wheelchair-accessible and encourages all folks attending the opening to refrain from wearing scented products for those with chemical/fragrance sensitives) Inspired by the late 1960s utopian builders’ guide A Whole Earth Catalog, QIY: Queer It Yourself – Tools for Survival presents a forum for queer do-it-yourself culture and alternative world making. QIY is envisioned as a laboratory for creating a sustainable queer culture and demonstrating the power of self and community organizing, re-creation, speculation, and transformation. As an antidote to anti-sociality theories of queerness (that suggest queerness can only be rendered as a negation of heteronormativity), Queer It Yourself invites artists to forge their own tools for surviving the everyday challenges of contemporary queer existence. The exhibition is built around artists’ workstations, participatory spaces, hands-on training sites, maps, and user-friendly art that uses immersive and interactive experiences to demonstrate the idea of art as a tool ¾as having active agency within the totality of a meaningful lived world. The QIY curators have queered the index of the original “Whole Earth Catalog” and adapted its thoughtful and useful categories to frame our own QIY space. Take Root is a part of Dirtstar 2011 and the National Queer Arts Festival. CATHERINE OPIE's work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. Her selected solo exhibitions include shows at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; St. Louis Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Photographers’ Gallery, London; Thread Waxing Space, New York; Art Pace, San Antonio; Regen Projects, Los Angeles; Jay Gorney Modern Art, New York; Stephen Friedman, London; Barbara Gladstone, New York; Galeria Massimo De Carlo, Milan; Foncke Galerie, Ghent; and Ginza Art Space, Tokyo. Opie was a recipient of the United States Artists Fellowship in 2006. In September of 2008, the Guggenheim Museum in New York opened a mid-career exhibition titled, Catherine Opie: American Photographer.

JONATHAN D. KATZ, scholar of post war art and culture from the vantage point of sexuality, is an Associate Professor at the University at Buffalo, and director of its Doctoral Program in Visual Studies, as well Honorary Research Faculty at the University of Manchester, UK and Guest Curator at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. An activist academic, Katz was the founding director of the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies at Yale University-- the first queer studies program in the Ivy League--and chair of the very first Department of Lesbian and Gay Studies in the United States, at City College of San Francisco in 1990. He co-founded the activist group Queer Nation, San Francisco, helped direct the San Francisco National Queer Arts Festival and founded the Queer Caucus of the College Art Association, the professional association of artists and art historians. Katz has curated the groundbreaking exhibition that opened in October 2010 at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery entitled Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture -- the first queer art exhibition at a national museum in US history—and has written its accompanying book.

CHINAKA HODGE is a poet and playwright. Originally from Oakland, California, Chinaka graduated from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study in May of 2006, and is currently pursuing her MFA in Writing for Film and TV at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. She received co-writing credit for Marc Bamuthi Joseph’s Scourge, sponsored, in part, by the Creative Work Fund, which opened in May 2005, in San Francisco. She was the Assistant Director of Suzan Lori Parks’ 365 Plays, 365 Days,at its San Francisco debut in November 2006. She also co-wrote The One Drop Rule: A War Piece, which debuted in Fall 2008. Her first independently written play, Mirrors in Every Corner, commissioned by SF’s Intersection for the Arts, is a recent Rockefeller MAP Fund grantee.

PAMELA SNEED is a Boston-born, New York-based poet,performance artist, actress, activist, and teacher. She is the author of two collections of poetry: Imagine Being More Afraid of Freedom Than Slavery (Henry Holt, 1998) and KONG And Other Works (Vintage Entity Press, 2009). She has held readings and performances at Center Stage at The Studio Museum, PS. 122, Creative Time @ The Brooklyn Anchorage, Exit Art, Lincoln Center Ex-Teresa in Mexico City, The ICA London, The CCA in Glasgow, Scotland, The Green Room in Manchester, England, Literatur Werkstat in Berlin. She teaches voice, performance and autobiographical writing at Long Island University.
